Martin A. David has published a wide variety of non-fiction including The Dancer’s Audition Book (Sterling - NY, London) and hundreds of articles in publications such as the Los Angeles Times. His short stories and poetry  appear in magazines and electronically. Karpstein Was Hiding is his first published novel.

Martin was born in Brooklyn, New York but has traveled extensively. He took a year off from college to hitchhike and hop freight trains around the United States, picking apricots in California and strawberries in Washington and Oregon. He worked on a ranch and worked in the cotton fields of Arizona. After earning his BA in Theatre at Brooklyn College, he worked in a number of independent films and stage productions, including Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival. Martin spent many of his earlier years abroad. He lived in Mexico for a year and in Europe for ten years, involved in numerous artistic enterprises and pursuits. In Europe he focused much of his energy on modern dance and choreography, performing in as well as directing many shows. Martin’s traveling also brought into light another talent of his, language.  Besides English, he is fluent in Danish, Spanish and French, with a conversational knowledge of Italian and German. Martin has worked as a translator for some time, publishing seven volumes of classical Danish authors. He is a member of the American Translators Association and The Translators and Interpreters Guild.  In the late 1980s he returned to school and earned a diploma in computer programming and software engineering.   He and his wife, Sarah, pursued successful careers in technology before going off into the mountains of Northern California where they became sheep ranchers and then co-owners of a highly profitable computer company. They later returned to the Silicon Valley where they have settled down. Martin continues to publish translations, stories and magazine articles as well as working as a senior technical writer. He is a Commissioner on the Santa Clara Cultural Advisory Commission.

His collection of short stories, Shtetl in My Mind, is being prepared for publication. Voice Versa, a volume of his poetry will be published shortly after that.
